Embodied Carbon – The Next Step Towards Zero Carbon Airports
Airports have made significant strides in recent years to understand and minimise the carbon emissions arising from their day to day operations. Many operators airports have taken a wider view of carbon emissions to include the take-off and landing cycle for aircraft and the different forms of surface transport taking people and goods to and from the airport. In comparison, the embodied carbon contained in buildings and other physical infrastructure has received much less attention. However, the impacts are significant with the carbon emissions resulting from the construction of a new building being similar to the emissions arising from the operation of the building over its whole lifetime. If airports are to fully address their carbon impacts they need to develop a much better understanding of how to minimise the carbon content of their buildings and infrastructure

How do you improve the safety and reliability of people flow at an airport? By connecting to the cloud! Keeping people on the move in increasingly busy airports in a safe, pleasant, and efficient way is more challenging than ever. As escalators, autowalks and elevators play an increasingly vital role, data from this equipment can be monitored, analysed and displayed in real-time, to improve performance, reliability and safety. Cognitive learning can also help identify and predict faults before they even happen!
